Welcome to the Awards & Scholarships site for cardiothoracic surgery! The organizations represented on this site encourage participation, leadership, education, and research in cardiothoracic surgery. You’ll find numerous award and scholarship applications for cardiothoracic surgery residents, researchers and surgeons, general surgery residents, and medical students. 

As you navigate your way through this site, you may find that you are eligible for more than one scholarship. If you would like to apply for more than one, be sure to submit a completed application for each individual scholarship. Please take note of varying application schedules, including open and close dates, review periods, and award announcement dates.

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Looking to the Future Scholarship is for U.S. or Canadian medical students and general surgery residents interested in but not yet committed to a career in cardiothoracic surgery. This scholarship underwrites expenses for attendance at the STS Annual Meeting and provides mentorship to aspiring cardiothoracic surgeons.

The application process for the 2025 STS Looking to the Future Scholarship will open in August 2024.

The Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF) offers a variety of grants and educational scholarships for cardiothoracic surgery surgeons.
